I definitely loved this episode, as I’ve really been enjoying foursquare since they added a version for BlackBerry. I was disappointed though that Mobile Magic wasn’t mentioned at all – I know it’s not an app that’s really useful outside of the parks, but its location services were a dream to use last week when I was there.
Loved this show. I personally love Gowalla and have seen the issue with not being in the right location to check in have found 2 workarounds for this. 1. Turn off GPS and let the cell triangulation find you and it’ll get around the issue or 2. Use Gowalla’s mobile website, which is really good, and check in there.
I like the Foursquare game aspect with points and becoming mayor of places, but somehow still like Gowalla better.
In regards to privacy, this is one of those apps that I just don’t friend everyone that comes knocking, but I’ve found that if you use the Foursquare or Gowalla website, you can see other users check-ins anyway. So, don’t know where that full privacy is. As with everything else, you can still be found if the person trying to find you has enough will to do so.
Just saw this today. Still under invite only, but might want to keep an eye on it as it could save time when checking in if it works properly. http://check.in/
